Democracy… “Who Takes Care of the Carer?”
A democracy is supposedly a form of government in which the people, either directly or indirectly, take part in governing. The word democracy originates from Greek, and means rule of the people.
Do we have a democracy, does it work, or is it all a big cover up?
Democracy sounds like a nice idea – but is it ultimately more than the elite 1% with a pretext to exploit everyone around them?
If the people that get themselves into positions exploit democracy, if they have no belief other than to put things into place through their ego, greed and a thirst for power, without an ideological backing, is it doomed to invoke disaster? Once that idealogical backing is in place can democracy work… really work?
The fact is, sometimes members choose to vote people into power based on their promises. They themselves are prepared to offer no assistance. Often, they are part of the ‘WIMF’ Society, (What’s In It For Me). They allow people to be voted in because they, and others are not prepared to put in the time and effort for the gains they hope (or expect) others will produce for them. Then if they (those voted into positions) have an agenda other than the well being of that position, it can mean annihilation for all concerned. Maybe not this term, or even this year – but eventually greed cannot sustain itself forever. Then the only other way for those people to remain in power, is through it becoming a dictatorship.
I often hear people talking about transparency. It may well be that the governing body is not showing its hand simply to avoid the opposition from using this information to gain something from that knowing. Those who might conspire to use that information to work against them and others, taking advantage of an increasingly gullible and passive populance who see it as withholding information from them deliberately.
Having been a National President myself, I can remember coming into the position trusting all to be ethical and caring as myself, and wanting to work for the same end. I can even remember saying; “I will work hard, but I will not become political.” Ha! Over the years, I have had to learn that whilst you might want to play the democratic game, others might want to be successful in their desire to weaken, instead of strengthen what collectively we all said we wanted to work towards; taking advantage of an increasingly gullible and passive populace. I found myself becoming the warden of my own association.
People’s expectations are quite different and our awareness of the political process has changed dramatically. Alternatively, has it? Was it just that our eyes were not open or we didn’t have the education to question things?
As I read on one website from one disgruntled contributor:
Quote: ”Jeez! We seriously can’t take our eye off our political spivs for a moment, they are on a mission to rob and screw us anyway they can. Not only have they managed to eliminate the Democracy bit of *Representative Democracy*, they’ve got rid of the Representative side too. S’pose they could say they still are doing the representative bit tho, just it’s only for themselves and their cronies!” Unquote
It is not the job of a governing body to keep information from it’s members, who, in theory at least, are meant to be working for their members. But it is prudent that when working towards some objective, that a governing body keep information close until they have achieved their objective – take that from experience of one who knows, otherwise you will find that some people will want to destroy all the good that you are attempting to achieve, for their own gains.
Does that mean we can’t trust anyone? Not necessarily so.
Many people that come across my path in therapy have been; abused, emotionally, physically or financially. They find it hard to ever trust ever again. However, very often, when we reflect on a particular incident, their ‘Gut Feeling’ knew something didn’t feel quite right, yet they ignored those subconscious feelings. Did you know that you have 60 per cent of your enteric nervous system in your Gut? Learn to listen to your feelings, and then work out if they come from a ‘warning system’ or your ‘ego’. How do you know which is which? When you follow the right one, you will obtain a positive outcome. Choose the wrong one and it will give you a negative outcome. Experience will guide you to the thoughts or feelings that are right for you.
Sometimes, we have lost our way and need someone like myself to help guide you to the path you crave so much. Moreover, hey! It is all right to admit that – even as a carer I too sometimes need guidance – there is a saying; “Who Takes Care of the Carer?” And that doesn’t only apply to professionals but also the carers in families and other areas in life.
