Today there is much more talk about buzz words like EQ and HQ. IQ is thought to be much less important than we gave it credit for. What are these?
Early in the 20th Century, IQ (human Intelligence), that is the knowledge we have accumulated through learning at school and by reading books etc., was thought to be the most important thing for us to acquire to do well and deal with life. In fact, in the world of Academia this thinking still prevails.
Yet interestingly as far back as the 1600’s BC, Socrates already knew that EQ (Emotional Intelligence) had much more to do with healing than the actual physical illness that required treatment.

The discovery of HQ (Higher Intelligence) unfolded in the 1990’s when neurologists began to investigate our brain’s electro-magnetic fields, that is said to vibrate in a single coherent frequency. Exciting research using high-tech equipment such as fMRI and PET scans has proven that these higher intelligence whole-brain vibrations are the aspect of our brain that we use to aspire to higher levels of achievement and consciousness. HQ is the aspect of our intelligence that allows us to create meaning in our lives — to reach beyond our rational and emotional thinking. So what am I on about you say…. This is what happens. IQ, EQ and HQ work by themselves but they also work together with each other. Each has its own job:
- IQ analyses a situation and comes up with logical conclusions based on its knowledge.
- EQ comes up with the emotional response to IQ’s conclusions, and
- HQ allows us to create a new ‘reality’ by making sense of and re-evaluating our lives with the ability to make new informed choices and transform unwanted situations through therapies such as Clinical Hypnosis.
o Whilst IQ is able to understand through new learning why things are what they are, EQ response from the original conclusion through past happenings through repetition that has taken the original conclusion from short term, to long term, to habit.
o Habit is the culprit that makes change difficult, especially if the EQ response experienced fear, anxiety or a traumatic experience.
The ability to access your HQ is able to occur through Hypnosis, where your therapist assists you to access this conscious-subconscious bridge through the A -T (alpha-theta) brainwave states.
